This course is a basic course offered to UG/PG students of Engineering/Science background. It contains existence and uniqueness of solutions of an ODE, homogeneous and non-homogeneous linear systems of differential equations, power series solution of second order homogeneous differential equations. In this chapter we illustrate the uses of the linear partial differential equations of first order in several topics of Physics. The purpose of this chapter is to motivate the importance of this branch of mathematics into the physical sciences.

In mathematics, a partial differential equation (PDE) is an equation which imposes relations between the various partial derivatives of a multivariable function. The function is often thought of as an "unknown" to be solved for, similarly to how x is thought of as an unknown number, to be solved for, in an algebraic equation like x 2 − 3x + 2 = 0.
From October, to September, he served as head of the ETH Mathematics Department. His research focuses on non-linear partial differential equations and the calculus of variations as well as their applications in mathematical physics and differential geometry. In he received the Credit Suisse Award For Best Teaching. This book primarily concerns quasilinear and semilinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations, inequalities, and systems.
The exposition leads the reader through the general theory based on abstract (pseudo-) monotone or accretive operators as fast as possible towards the analysis of concrete differential equations, which have specific applications in continuum (thermo.Nonlinear partial differential equations has become one of the main tools of mod ern mathematical analysis; in spite of seemingly contradictory terminology, the subject of nonlinear differential equations finds its origins in the theory of linear differential equations, and a large part of functional analysis derived its inspiration from the study of linear pdes.5/5(1).
